Careplots provided a key role in assisting Westat secure a five-year IDIQ Research and Analytics contract, supporting SAMHSA Center for Behavioral Health Financing and Integration (CFRI). Careplots, a healthcare technology and data analytics company, will collaborate with Westat subject matter experts and nationally recognized behavioral health professionals to advance research and analysis efforts for the SAMHSA Center for Financing Reform and Innovation. This partnership will focus on quantitative analyses and major task orders aimed at evaluating behavioral health insurance coverage, service usage patterns, access disparities, and potential barriers to treatment across different insurance types.
Careplots’ principal investigators will lead in designing methodologies, developing study plans, and interpreting results. Meanwhile, the Careplots data engineering team will manage data operations, including extracting, aggregating, de-identifying, and merging patient data for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and Mental Disorders (MHD) from Real-World Data sources like CMS VRDC CCW, encompassing Medicare Fee-For-Service data, Medicare Advantage encounters, Medicaid TMSIS TAF data, and data for dual-eligible beneficiaries, as well as large commercial data sources for private insurance such as MarketScan or HCCI. This data will support analyses of service utilization trends over the past seven years for critical services such as Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol use disorders, collaborative care, behavioral health screenings, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for older adults. Additionally, the Careplots team will develop algorithms for risk adjustment and use propensity matching methods to enable meaningful comparisons of outcomes across patient cohorts.
